Two years have passed since Jaguar blew us all away with the concept crossover C-X17, and finally the production vehicle that is the result of this concept is making its way to dealerships in early 2016. With three different engine configurations, five trims and a veritable cornucopia of technological advances we’ve never seen before, the 2017 Jaguar F-PACE retails for $40,990 and above. It’s a bold new venture for Jaguar as they power into the luxury sports crossover market. Let’s first take a look at the trim levels that will be available upon launch.
The “entry-level” model starts at $40,990, and already includes a wealth of features such as 18” alloys, All-wheel drive, Jaguar InControl Protect with remote, a power tailgate and Meridian 380W 11-speaker sound system. Halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights come as standard.
The F-PACE Premium
Starting at $44,200, the F-PACE Premium bumps up the features with a more luxurious interior, a garage door opener, 19” alloy wheels and rear view camera.
The F-PACE Prestige
The F-PACE Prestige, starting at $48,700, is the luxury interior tier, with heated leather 3-way front power lumber seats and steering wheel, interior mood lighting, and Jaguar InControl Apps. Keyless entry makes life easier too.
The F-PACE R-Sport
Sports styling in the $53,900 F-PACE R-Sport tier makes the F-PACE feel like a whole new beast, with 20” alloys, sport body kit, chrome finishers and full LED headlights. Inside, the 4-way front sport seats and branded multi-function steering wheel complete the package. The R-Sport also comes with a full range of driver assist features – lane assist, driver condition monitoring, blind spot monitoring, autonomous braking and reverse traffic detection.
The F-PACE S
The $56,700 F-PACE S includes all of the features of the F-PACE Premium, but packs in a powerful 380hp 3.0L Supercharged V6! Similar to the F-PACE R-Sport in other respects, it includes the raft of driver assist features and exterior body kit with chrome finishers. Red brake calipers round off the look, whereas Adaptive Surface Response and Adaptive Dynamics give you complete control over the road.
The F-PACE First Edition
A limited edition to be available only in the first year, the F-PACE First Edition is the closest you’ll ever come to driving the C-X17 concept car first unveiled in Frankfurt in 2013. Offering all of the incredible features of the F-PACE S, the F-PACE First Edition also comes with a unique Rhodium Silver finish, exclusive exterior and interior design touches like embossed houndstooth pattern seats and a surround camera system.
Engine and Configuration
The F-PACE has three engine options including the special edition 380HP of the F-PACE First Edition. All of the models feature a ZF automatic transmission that can be manually controlled by paddles on the steering wheel. All-wheel drive (AWD) comes as standard on all models.
The F-PACE benefits from Jaguar’s RC5754 aluminum alloy – over a third of the vehicle uses this lightweight aluminum architecture. A composite tailgate and magnesium beam system supported by high strength steel allow for incredible driving dynamics that rivals any Jaguar.
Varied road surfaces are handled with ease by the double-wishbone Integral Link suspension, Jaguar’s most sophisticated suspension ever, offering a rock solid, smooth and quiet ride. Under-steer on corner entry is mitigated by the new Torque Vectoring by Braking system that can automatically apply a tiny imperceptible amount of braking on the inside rear wheel.
Jaguar’s impressive All-wheel drive (AWD) system comes as standard on all models of the F-PACE. Adaptive Dynamics is an option that can provide continual dampening by monitoring the F-TYPE’s body and wheel movements hundreds of times a second. This results in a smoother ride at low speeds and better handling at high speeds.
Of particular note is the responsiveness of the steering, leaving you feel truly connected to the vehicle thanks to its instantaneous feedback. The electric power assist calculates every force from the road and uses this to determine the right amount of assistance you may require. The further you turn the wheel, the more responsive the steering becomes.
A Jaguar through and through, the exterior curves and lines of the F-PACE are unmistakably influenced by the Jaguar F-TYPE yet with influence from the C-X17 concept vehicle. Aerodynamically-sound, the F-PACE proves to be part SUV, part sports car, with a powerful, agile, virile sporting road presence. Assertive yet not aggressive, the F-PACE is a svelte and muscular beast with a sleek roofline to match.
A blend of sporty and elegant, the interior of the F-PACE is sophisticated and modern. Optional mood lighting allows you to personalize your vehicle’s interior lighting from a choice of 10 colors.
The F-PACE has a flexible 40:20:40 seating arrangement, with wide rear seats capable of accommodating three adults and individually foldable for maximum utility. Useable pockets and storage spaces abound, and the F-PACE offers an impressive 33.5 cu-ft. of loadspace. The loadspace floor is reversible, with carpet making way for a rubberized floor that is easy to clean. Perfect for transporting messier items.
A panoramic tinted glass roof offers great natural interior light while guarding against heat and protecting your privacy.
Connectivity and Infotainment
Jaguar has one of the best in-car connectively systems on the planet. Its touchscreen sits pride of place in the center console, and functions much like a tablet with swipe and drag actions.
InControl Touch Pro is the optional extra in the F-PACE that turns your vehicle into a complete infotainment center. It includes a 60GB solid state drive and a 10.2 inch touchscreen that’s completely customizable. With navigation data stored on the ultra-fast hard drive the 2D and 3D maps are remarkably responsive. You can pinch, zoom, scroll and search, all from the touch screen. Turn-by-turn instructions can be relayed to the head-up display.
InControl Touch Pro is linked to the F-PACE’s incredible Meridian 17-speaker 825W surround sound speaker system. The interfacing doesn’t stop there – connect up your smartphone by USB and any Android or iOS app can be displayed and interacted with on the central console touchscreen.
Using InControl Remote you’ll be able to remotely control functions of your car, such as locking the doors or adjusting the heating.
Driver Assist Systems
The F-PACE’s driver assistance features are more than impressive; they represent some of the most advanced technology ever available in a road vehicle.
Head-up Display (HUD)
A sharp, high-contrast laser display right where you want it – in your eye-line. This HUD can relay important information like current speed and navigation instructions, and is fully adjustable.
All Surface Progress Control (ASPC)
A low-speed cruise control system for off-road use, ASPC is activated via the center console where you can set the maximum speed. ASPC will then take control of the brakes and throttle to ensure a steady progress across terrain without any wheel spin.
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
The first of its kind in a Jaguar, the F-PACE offers an AEB system that detects pedestrians. Braking can be automatically triggered when the system detects an imminent collision with a vehicle or pedestrian.
Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist – A visual or haptic warning when you are veering out of lane. Lane Keep Assist can even subtly counter-steer to keep the vehicle in lane.
Driver Condition Monitoring
Should be vehicle detect that you may be fatigued (through patterns such as no steering for a period of time followed by heavy steering) audible warnings can be triggered.
Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
The front stereo camera can read upcoming speed signs and cross-check them with GPS data, informing you via the head-up display. Optionally, a warning can be triggered if the driver is over the prescribed speed limit.
Adaptive Cruise Control – With its fully-adjustable queue assist function, driving in traffic has never been easier, as the F-PACE will automatically track and follow the vehicle in front.
Intelligent Speed Limiter
Using the data from TSR, the intelligent speed limiter can adjust the maximum speed of the vehicle to keep the vehicle always within the speed limit.
With park assist, the F-PACE will park itself! All you have to do is control the brakes and the accelerator, and the F-PACE will perform perpendicular and parallel parking maneuvers.
Blind Spot Monitoring – Sensors monitor the rear area of the vehicle to warn for any potential danger, such as fast-approaching vehicles. Warnings are displayed on the side mirror.
An agile and refined entry into the market, the spacious cabin and 33.5 cu.ft. of luggage space of the F-PACE make it practical as well as a delight to drive. Interior technology is second to none, and exemplary driver assist functionality makes driving in the city or for the long haul a real joy. Coming with up to 380HP and offering acceleration from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, the Jaguar F-PACE seems to have it all. A real market-shaker starting at $40,990, the Jaguar F-PACE will be ruling the streets of a city near you soon.
