The Jaguar XE sports saloon has been awarded the prestigious Euro NCAP Best in Class Car of 2015 award, placing first in the large family car category. Other awards of distinction received by the Jaguar XE include the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP, requiring the vehicle to pass a highly demanding set of test protocols. In response to the decision to award the XE with the best in class honor, Euro NCAP identified the high levels of active and passive systems in the XE as standard as a key factor leading to the award.
Jaguar felt a strong impetus to provide outstanding levels of occupant and pedestrian safety in the XE. Advanced aluminum architecture was combined with the most cutting-edge technology available to create a vehicle that meets such a high level of safety. Already a benchmark for vehicle dynamics, the XE’s ability to deliver on safety has made it highly deserving of the recognition bestowed upon it by the Euro NCAP.
Critical Safety Systems as Standard
One of the measures used in the Euro NCAP 2015 test protocols is a new full width frontal crash test, which made it even more challenging to obtain a five-star rating. The XE’s light, stiff advanced aluminum architecture and latest advanced driver assistance systems were fundamental in its achieving the five-star designation. Also key is adult occupant protection. The XE performed well above the competition on pedestrian protection and safety assist due to features such as the deployable bonnet and autonomous emergency braking. Euro NCAP issued a statement acknowledging and congratulating Jaguar for their decision to make the all-important safety assist features standard equipment.
Enhanced Feeling of Control
Jaguar has designed a range of world-class advanced safety features and driver assistance systems that help protect the driver, passengers and pedestrians at every point of the journey. Driver assistance technology is sophisticated and designed to provide useful information, feedback and reassurance to drivers. It allows the driver an enhanced feeling of control that gives them the confidence to enjoy driving. These safety features and systems include the following:
Adaptive Front Lighting and Intelligent High Beams
The intelligent high beam system is able to recognize light from other vehicles. When the presence of other oncoming vehicles is detected, the system automatically switches the full LED headlights between high and low beams as needed. The adaptive front lighting also works in conjunction with the steering, increasing illumination when bends are detected to help make night driving in challenging conditions safer and less stressful.
The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are designed to not only help the driver maintain awareness of surrounding while driving, but also reduce stress and risk of accident when parking. The 360 Park Distance Control alerts drivers to the proximity of any objects around the XE, thereby significantly lowering the risk of an accident. The Surround Camera System displays images on a centrally located touchscreen from four cameras strategically positioned outside the vehicle.
The Jaguar InControl Protect System features critical services such as SOS Emergency Call and Optimized Roadside Assistance. When the driver finds himself or herself in a critical situation, the Jaguar vehicle automatically notifies emergency services the driver’s location for assistance. When the driver needs roadside assistance for any reason, the system provides the driver’s GPS location and diagnostic information related to the breakdown, including battery charge level, fuel level, and tire pressure to assist the call center in getting the proper assistance to the driver’s destination, thereby minimizing delays.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist
Designed to make long distance drives as effortless as possible, the Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a preset gap between the vehicle and the vehicle ahead. Queue Assist allows the XE to come to a complete stop automatically upon reaching a line of traffic.
Airbags and Whiplash Protection
The airbag supplemental restraint system provides protection in certain collision scenarios. The complement of protection available in this system includes dual front airbags, an airbag in each front seat’s outer seat edges and side curtain airbags over the side windows. There are sensors in the front seats designed to detect the size and weight of the driver and passenger, thereby allowing the front airbags to deploy with appropriate force to minimize potential injuries in the event of collision. The advanced seatbelt pre-tensioners tighten automatically when the vehicle senses rapid deceleration. Anti-whiplash technology moves front head restraints forward in certain types of collisions to help in preventing whiplash type injuries to the head and neck.
